Subluxation

You don't visit your dentist for regular checkups because you suffer from toothaches, but because you want to prevent them. The same principle holds for chiropractic. You should visit your chiropractor regularly, not because you are suffering from the pain or deterioration of vertebral subluxation complex (VSC), but because you want to prevent them.

Just as a dentist performs a dental exam to check for tooth problems, your chiropractor can perform a spinal health exam to check for joint problems. If he or she finds any, an adjustment can prevent them from worsening. Adjustments help realign vertebral bones so that they don't harm muscles, nerves or other structures of the spine and the body.

Your chiropractor can also prescribe a stretching and strengthening program to help improve joint mobility and prevent muscle imbalance. Stretching the muscles and joints of the neck and upper back is like giving them a non-stressful, gentle reminder of how they are meant to move. Strengthening the same muscles allows you to evenly distribute the weight or stress you put on the back, helping you avoid muscle imbalances and joint dysfunction, and aiding in the promotion of a healthy spine.
